Pag Old Town Walking Tour
🏛️ Discover the stories behind Pag’s stone streets, lace and salt
Most visitors know Pag for its beaches. But behind the coastline lies a fascinating medieval town shaped by centuries of salt production, trade and local traditions.
If you’ve ever wondered why Pag lace looks the way it does, why the town was built exactly where it is, or how salt influenced the lives of generations of islanders, this tour is for you.
Join me on a relaxed walking tour through the historic centre of Pag and discover the stories that most visitors never hear.
🧭 Why This Tour?
This isn’t a tour about memorising dates or listening to a list of monuments.
Instead, we’ll explore Pag by asking questions.
🔺Why was the town built here instead of somewhere else?
🔺Why are the streets laid out the way they are?
🔺Why did salt become so valuable that it shaped the town’s history for centuries?
🔺And why is Pag lace recognised around the world?
As we walk through medieval streets, churches, towers and squares, you’ll discover how history, architecture and everyday life are connected in ways you probably wouldn’t notice on your own.

👋 Meet Your Guide
Hi, I’m Tena, a licensed tour guide, archaeologist and travel creator who grew up in the town of Pag.
After more than ten years working in archaeology, including underwater archaeology, living abroad and travelling extensively, I realised that the stories I enjoy telling the most are often the ones that never make it into guidebooks.
Growing up in Pag gave me the chance to experience the town not only as a visitor, but as someone who knows its history, traditions and everyday life from the inside. Archaeology taught me to look beyond what is immediately visible and ask why. Why was something built here? Why does it look the way it does? What does it tell us about the people who lived here?
That’s exactly how I designed this tour.
Rather than simply pointing out monuments, I want to help you understand the stories behind them and see Pag through the eyes of someone who has called it home for a lifetime.
My goal isn’t simply to show you Pag. It’s to help you understand it.
